There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is banned. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of many borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling den, highlights 150 slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel building that features numerous luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 tables.
